These instructions won't do much for everyone right now since OS X Lion is still in the hands of the developers. Select the "InstallESD.dmg" copy as the image to burn, insert a DVD, and in a few minutes, you will have a brand new Lion Boot Disc. Launch Disk Utility and click the burn button. Use Finder to locate the Mac OS X Lion installer, right-click and select "Show Package Contents."įind the SharedSupport folder and look for a file named "InstallESD.dmg." This is the Lion Boot Disc image.Ĭopy the "InstallESD.dmg" file to another folder, such as your desktop. Once you have the installer files, follow these steps to create your very own boot disc: OS X Lion will be distributed via the Mac App Store, and you can download the installer files to your hard drive. Inside it is a Contents folder, then a SharedSupport folder, then the InstallESD.Mac OS X Lion will debut in July, and this handy set of instructions from Egg Freckles will let you create a boot disc for installation. Control-click (right-click) it, select Show Package Contents, and you'll see a Finder window for it. Make sure you choose a CD type that can be read on your Mac and your Windows machine. Then press the 'Burn' button in the top right corner of the window, change disc name to something that makes sense to you and press OK. You'll need a Finder window and the Disk Utility app (in your Applications/Utilities folder) on your screen. When the disc appears on your desktop, double click it and drag the files you want to burn into the window. This procedure has worked in testing, but is not officially supported by Apple.ĭepending on how you install Lion or Mountain Lion, you may need to do this after downloading, but before installing, as the downloaded package may be deleted from your Applications folder during the installation.
